New Name: Gentiva Hospice

Strange Tony,

Our hospice's name is set for another change.  It's our seventh name change and most arose from corporate buyouts.  I thought the Gentiva name might return as it surfaced in a corporate office e-mail account.

The incomplete heart or odd shaped G above the Gentiva Hospice name symbolizes financial rapscallion and executive greed.

I find it strange that executives happily and repeatedly  trash any brand loyalty our hospice earned in the community.  It may not be a bad thing given how badly Humana, TPG and WCAS bled us of cash and trashed what was once nationally recognized hospice care.

A toast to our new incomplete heart, G for greed logo.

Upper management leaves a lot to be desired. Company focuses too much on money and the bottom line, does not put the patients first.

    Pros
Benefits management and pay are comparable for the job market

    Cons
Company changes owners on a regular basis for some reason

    Advice to Management
Stop changing owners and work processes that seasoned employees are accustomed to and take a minute to understand what staff may have already experienced with your changes

The biggest pitfalls to the job are excessive charting, a large coverage area requiring excessive driving, and a generally poor work/life balance.

Extremely poor management, no one concerned about employee needs. Very poor pay for the hours you have to work. Very shady company overall. No work/family balance.

  8. Alabama RN said "a nurse for 40 years and this was the most toxic work environment":

Kindred Hospice was the most toxic work environment I ever experienced. Management talked about nurses and showed no support. Nurses came and left working less than one year. The company was bought out twice in the 2.5 years I was there. Rules constantly changing. Management had favorites and attempted to torpedo others. It was difficult to watch. Frequently nurses “publicly shamed”. If you want to be a hospice nurse, don’t accept a position from this company. All they cared about was getting admissions and not taking care of the patients they had. You will be sorry if you work here.

  9. Missouri Hospice Aide said this of Kindred Hospice:

They tell you you're full time but you have no guarantee of hours. They let you do office work but once it is done it's done. Management is very sneaky and also shares things with favorites that are not supposed to be in the issue.

There is no continuity of pay for hourly employees. They'll then cut your hours to push you out instead of firing you.

What is the best part of working at the company?
    Nothing good to say

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
    Non compete clause
    Non compliance with Medicare regulations

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Calling patients to set up home visits
Then making each visit while answering multiple phone calls from the office or other patients

It's ok place to work and I enjoy my patients and most coworkers in the field. Office management is horrible. They treat their cnas terrible and have absolutely no communication. Not to mention everybody is boss in the main office.

They are not a good company to work they do not value their employees. Every employee is disposable and runs the risk of being terminated without cause. Job security is horrible, promotes working in a hostile environment.
