Humana to Borrow $3 Billion to Buy and Flip Our Hospice

Strange Tony,

Humana will borrow $3 billion to buy the rest of Kindred at Home.  Humana CEO Bruce Broussard will write a $3.8 billion check to financial rapscallions WCAS and TPG Capital for their 60% of Kindred at Home.  That's orders of magnitude more than they paid Kindred shareholders for the company three years ago.

Kindred at Home executives equity stake rose 212% in three years.  They will earn a king's ransom from decimating our hospice and treating employees like serfs.  Raises have been sparse to nonexistent under Humana ownership.

Humana CEO Bruse Broussard will enrich his former employers at WCAS yet again.  Broussard served at CEO for US Oncology, a WCAS affiliate.

Humana will spin off, i.e. sell yet again, our hospice shortly after closing the Kindred at Home transaction in mid-August.  Humana wants 23x EBDITA for us.  That will produce lots of cash for the board to share with Broussard.

Recall Kindred CEO Paul Diaz received a $6 million check for closing the Gentiva deal.  Employees got nothing.

How big will Bruce's check be?  My coworkers and I wait at the foot of his table for crumbs to fall.

  1. Please let our new owner not be WCAS' Valtruis.

  2. “We believe Valtruis is well positioned to leverage WCAS’s longstanding relationships and history of building market-leading health care businesses alongside tremendous operating talent and expertise to deliver a differentiated resource to emerging companies looking to accelerate the adoption of value-based care,” said David Caluori, general partner at WCAS.

Caluori was part of the Slim Suit crew that botched the Trump COVID-19 response.

The company culture is toxic and inept management seems to be rewarded on both the sales and ops side. The company has a terrible reputation because of rep turnover and overbearing sales leadership that is completely out of tune with the market place and what is actually needed to build trusted, long-term referral relationships. You wear too many hats as an account liaison that you can’t focus on the things you need to focus on to succeed. Worst part: borderline harassment during pandemic lockdowns when sales leadership was more concerned with making sure reps get face-to-face with accounts, rather than keeping themselves and Kindred’s employees safe. Completely tone deaf. What a disaster. Stay away.

    Pros
    You’re always free to resign

    Cons
    Inept leadership

I love Hospice but unfortunately this company caused me to leave the field. RNCM that was salaried for 40 hrs/wk, but consistently working 60+, including weekends and on call with no compensation or days off. Multiple times working 12 days in a row. Had many nights I had to make numerous visits on call to only have no rest and be back at it the next day. Healthcare staffing is at an all time low, however when staffing issues arise 2 months in advance and to do nothing but push it on to the CM, says alot. Clients have no boundaries as they'll call your personal cell at all hours and any day including your vacation time, that they knew of in advance. I was given no decompression time to recover in a setting that demands it. It truly does consume you 24/7. It's a rewarding path to take, but only when properly structured and managed.

    Pros
    They pay extremely well..on paper

    Cons
No balance and your job comes first. That's the culture they promote.

  7. Optimizing the financials for the IPO. Alabama nurse said:

Productivity was raised and point value lowered. Getting paid per visit if I was in a home 2 hours I got 1 per visit rate. No opportunity for overtime because they cut all drive time out.

    Pros
    None

    Cons
    Pay grade sucks

More wage theft, as if there hadn't been enough under Humana

Horrible company to work for. Leadership criticized you for your work, while the continue to make horrible choices for the company. The culture of this company is not conducive for the employees well being.
