Hospice Workers Were Post Officed

Strange Tony,

Kindred Hospice isn't the only place with bad management.  Consider recent changes at the post office.

“Unfortunately, our production process within the plants was not fully aligned with this established schedule. So we had some delays in the mail, and our recovery process in this should have been a few days and it’s mounted to be a few weeks,” he said. “The only change that I made was that the trucks leave on time. Theoretically, everyone should have got their mail faster.”

Pressed by Senator Jacky Rosen, a Nevada Democrat, DeJoy declined to say what kind of analysis, if any, USPS had done before implementing the changes.

Losing the 671 mail sorting machines, in combination with other cuts, has led to mail moving more slowly through postal facilities, postal workers say,

Management making universal decrees without analysis, input, testing or feedback.  Sound familiar?  The USPS, like Kindred Hospice, has a no overtime order.

Humana and its financial rapscallion partners trashed our one nationally recognized hospice.  They foisted Curo's myopic leadership and inadequate processes on us with no input from dedicated staff.  Curo ran a bunch of small hospices.  Our hospice was over three times the size of the average Curo site.

Our mail sorting machines were staff.  Curo cut a big number initially saying technology would replace the work these dedicated people performed.  Curo's crappy technology created drastically more work for people who wanted to be paid fairly for hours worked and miles driven.  Staff cutting never stopped.  It was hard to see the company had any standard for new hires.  Repeatedly we got unqualified new people, usually with zero input from the "team."

Curo gave us phone and computer systems that could spy on staff.  The phone system worked poorly making it difficult for families to reach our hospice in times of crisis.  Overworked nurses tried to document admissions and visits in Homecare Homebase's Gordian Knot software.  They would be disciplined, then fired for allowing their charts to go unfinished as this cost the company money.  Nurse eventually learned to say "no" to all rabbit trails and document their findings in one place, the clinical summary.

Supposedly customer feedback was a critical measure.  It plummeted during all the changes with not a concern from local or regional management.  They refused to acknowledge or discuss indicators showing repeated service failure.

Staff turnover soared and has remained high.  We have very few experienced staff left.  Every quality hospice nurse resigned.  Some chose not to work 60-80 hour weeks and be paid for 40.

Another mail sorting machine removed was our site's color printer.  We used it to create veteran certificates and other special items for patients and staff.  It had brand new ink cartridges installed.  Curo would not let us run down the ink, an expense already incurred.  The machine sat idle for a year while we paid a vendor to produce those Veteran Certificates and the company paid time and mileage for a staff member to pick those up.

Humana/Curo pulled a USPS on us.  Patients and families continue to pay the price in lesser quality service.   Like the post office hospice workers are not consulted on changes.  Rewards for good service are nonexistent.

The management bar has fallen so low.  Why don't they open their eyes and ears?  Do they not care about workers and customers like the USPS?  They simply care about money and power.  For that the people suffer.

  1. I work in the Revenue Cycle Department. The head of the department come from a manufacturing background and thinks in terms of assembly line. Doesn’t work for Medicaid authorization. We are forever behind. Management will not listen to the workers. Procedures are forever being changed and not for the better. Workers keep getting moved from role to role but no advancement, little increase in pay. Little communication from management. The only good thing to happen is that we are working from home due to the pandemic and we don’t have to put up with insults from the Vice President anymore.

  2. Managers are rarely around and threaten to fire you if "numbers aren't met". Very toxic work environment. Training on team is not equal. Very disorganized. During orientation, person leading was more eager to flirt than explain anything

    Pros
    Pay is decent

    Cons
I never get time off requested and the stress is unbearable

  3. The salary isn’t competitive and they don’t value their social workers. In this town you can definitely find better where you are more respected and compensated fairly. The mileage is a joke and there is no room for advancement for social workers here. The work is repetitive and their “trainings” mundane. Most of your work will be completed on a dated tablet the size of a hand held mirror. Then to top it all of the leadership at this company has developed a culture of using a tone that is unprofessional and flat out rude. Was given instructions the day of a state audit while the auditor was present! Never have I seen such a thing a company!! It became very apparent to me why other social workers refuse to work here or even allow their patients to start services with this company.

    Pros
The patients are sweet, they’ll feed you pizza and subs at all the meetings if that’s your “thing.”

    Cons
Unprofessional and rude leadership, poor compensation.

  5. Curo has turned this once great company into something on the bottom of your shoe. Doesn't recommend. Negative outlook. Disapproves of CEO.

I have been working at Kindred Hospice full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Co workers are great. You form bonds that will last years.

    Cons

Lowest starting pay for this type of work in the county. Everyone is overworked.

    Advice to Management

Curo needs to make it about the patients, not about the cost.

    ● Work-life balance
Company expects alot from the employees and do not care about work- life- balance

    ● Pay & benefits
they always get your pay wrong and it takes an act of congress to get you paid back what is owed.

    ● Job security and advancement
There is zero job security, company does not care to let go of anyone in a drop of a dime.

    ● Management
    Heartless and money driven

    ● Culture
THEY DO NOT WORK WITH YOU AT ALL TO TRY AND WORK REMOTELY SPECIALLY DURING COVID SITUATION.

    ● Overall
CURO IS A HORRIBLE COMPANY TO WORK FOR THEY ARE MONEY DRIVEN AND THEY DO NOTHING FOR THE EMPLOYEES. VOICES ARE NOT HEARD AND ARE COMPLETELY DISREGARDED. THEY PREFER HIGH NUMBERS OVER QUALITY FOR THE PATIENTS.

  7. Kindred at Home - Occupational Therapist

Doesn't recommend, Negative Outlook, Disapproves of CEO
    Pros

Great coworkers out in the field. Good vacation and healthcare benefits. Ok pay

    Cons

The company has really gone downhill in the last two years since getting bought out by Humana. Micromanaged. No support. Management does not care about how hard you are working and how much you are working and just keep adding more to your plate. They continue to take patients even though nobody to staff them.

    Advice to Management

You have a lot of unhappy quality employees that are just waiting to find different opportunities.

  8. Florida Hospice Nurse said "Everyone is Leaving"

When Kindred was just Kindred it was a lovely company to work for. Strong hospice philosophy, excellent management team, and a true care-for-the-employee environment.

Since the CURO/HUMANA take over it's been pure evil. Local management is nothing more than string puppets of the upper-level administrators. Pay is stagnant. Every second of your day is GPS tracked and reported.

What? Wait? Why did you spend more time with a particular patient? We had to balance 6-7 visits per day, including drive-time. Anyone who does home health knows that's impossible with an 8 hour day. Did you forget you're on salary and we own you for however many hours it takes?

Expect to work 10-12 hours daily. Expect calls from management 24/7. Expect mandatory call, even if it's not your turn.

Bottom line, it's all about corporate fiscal greed. Healthcare professionals are now expendable. Wait until HUMANA fully takes over control.

  9. Poor management, questionable ethics and back stabbing going on at the WF location

Second time to work for this company and this past time was awful and totally regretted my decision to work there just a couple days after getting there. Didn’t make it even 3 months before quitting. I loved my job last time around. The management and other staff lie, manipulate, and are ethically corrupt!! Very sad situation actually since it’s all about patient care. The management and other staff only care about the nighty dollar!!
